The Magnus Quant Challenge: What it’s all about

The Chess World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, has been outspoken about his desire to innovate chess, both on and off the chessboard. He has now teamed up with the quantitative finance company WorldQuant to screen and recruit new talent through the Play Magnus app.

Chess requires concentration, a strategic mind, the ability to see patterns and a keen eye for calculation - all skills that quantitative finance minds use every day. That’s why we’ve teamed up with WorldQuant - one of the world’s leading quantitative investment firms - to help it screen potential new talent through Play Magnus.

“I’m first and foremost passionate about chess, but I’m also convinced that is important to innovate in order to grow interest for chess in the future as well. The fact that WorldQuant sees an opportunity to attract talent through the apps we have developed motivates me to continue the journey to take the whole experience to a new level,“ Magnus said.

About the Magnus Quant Challenge
The Magnus Quant Challenge is a month-long competition designed to show that many of the skills learned in chess may translate into success in the quantitative finance world.

The challenge provides the opportunity for Play Magnus users to test their analytical skills and learn about quantitative finance. For the best quantitative minds, the motivation could be the opportunity to be considered for research consulting opportunities with WorldQuant’s Virtual Research Center.
